Google Service Outage Stirs Tweet Storm

Google suffered widespread outages Thursday morning across several of its services, a situation that the company reports has been dealt with.

"The issue affecting some Google services has been resolved," a Googlespokesperson said in an e-mail. "We're sorry for the inconvenience, and we'll share more details soon."

An 8:23 a.m. PDT update says, "We're aware of a problem with Google Mail affecting a small subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Google Mail." The update also notes that the issue "may also be affecting other services." A 9:39 a.m. PDT update reports that the problem has been resolved.

That last notable Gmail outage occurred on May 8, when the service was inaccessible for a limited number of users for about 20 minutes.

In February, Google apologized for a prolonged Gmail outage and extended account subscriptions for Google Apps Premier customers for 15 days, as per the Gmail service-level agreement. Other notable Gmail outages occurred last year in April, August, and October.

Initial reports about the outage Thursday attributed the problem to AT&T's network, but an AT&T spokesman said that wasn't the case. "We looked into the matter thoroughly," an AT&T spokesperson said in an e-mail. "We have not identified any specific problems in our network that could have caused the reported outage."

"An error in one of our systems caused us to direct some of our Web traffic through Asia, which created a traffic jam," he said. "As a result, about 14% of our users experienced slow services or even interruptions. We've been working hard to make our services ultrafast and 'always on,' so it's especially embarrassing when a glitch like this one happens. We're very sorry that it happened, and you can be sure that we'll be working even harder to make sure that a similar problem won't happen again. "

Google Faces Possible Class-Action Suit Over AdWords Trademarks

Firepond, a software company in Texas, has filed a class-action suit against Google claiming its AdWords service profits by encouraging companies to impinge on one another's trademarks.

Firepond claims that Google's sale of its brand name to its competitors amounts to trademark violation because people searching for "Firepond" end up clicking on the sponsored links of other companies, "thereby confusing Internet users and diverting a percentage of such users from [Firepond] and enjoying and benefiting from all the goodwill and 'buyer's momentum' associated with" its trademark, the suit read.

That objection alone wouldn't make the case special, since many AdWords advertisers have sued Google for alleged trademark infringement. What's unique in this filing is that the plaintiff is seeking class-action status for the suit, which it has brought on behalf of itself and, potentially, other aggrieved AdWords advertisers in the state of Texas.

Eric Goldman, an expert on Internet law and faculty member at Santa Clara University's School of Law, said the case may be the first attempt to bring a class-action suit against Google's AdWords program. He said Google was the target of an earlier class-action case, led by Vulcan Gulf, which was denied class-action status. But that lawsuit was brought against Google's AdSense for Domains program, not AdWords.

Goldman argued Firepond faces an uphill battle in its quest to convince a judge to certify the case as class action, a necessary step under federal court procedure rules.

"Trademark class-action lawsuits are rare because of the factual inquiry required to resolve each alleged trademark infringement," Goldman said. "I can't give an exact percentage, but the odds of class certification are low."

If the lawsuit does move forward, similar plaintiffs could join the suit, making it a potentially costly battle for Google.

When asked about the suit, a spokesperson for Google replied, "We haven't yet been served, so we can't comment until we've had a chance to review the complaint."

Google AdSense: 7 Tips For Creating Sites That Make Money

Having a Google AdSense site is a great way to make money. And to create an AdSense site, all you have to do is have a Google AdSense account (which is free), a website or a blog (which is free), and some articles (which are free if you write them yourself).. Once you get your site up and running, the AdSense ads will be targeted to your content. Therefore, those looking for your content will come by, read your articles, and have a high probability of being interested in the targeted ads. Every time someone clicks an ad, you get paid! That is, as long as you have designed your site to maximize AdSense clickthroughs!Let's look at seven tips for creating AdSense sites that create money.#
1: Keyword DensityBefore you place ads on your site, be sure your keyword density is good. You will want to be sure that the right kinds of ads are placed on your site. A free way to determine what the ads will look like on your site is to go to http://www.resultsgenerator.com/adsense/ and type in your keywords. You will then be able to see exactly what ads would show on your site.If you don't like what you see, then you know that you need to make changes to your keywords! You can get keyword suggestions from Results Generator from Overture or from the free trial version of Word Tracker.
#2: FocusedNot only will the ads be based on your keywords, but they will also be based on your content. You definitely want your keywords and your content to match as closely as possible
#3: Write OftenThe more information you have the better. Why? Because the more content you have, the more visitors you get. Many people suggest that you write a new article every day since no one wants to come back to your site to find the same old messages!
#4: Choose The Right FormatAdSense allows you to choose many different ad formats. Research has shown that wider ads are more successful. The top three formats are:" 336x280 large rectangle" 300x250 medium rectangle" 160x600 wide skyscraperAdditionally, the 468x15 horizontal ad link under the navigation bar is also a good bet.
#5: Color CountsYou have the option to create a Google AdSense ad in any color of your choice. The best thing to do is to make your ad blend well with your site color scheme. You should make the border color and the background color the same color as your web site. You will want your text color to either be black or the color of your main content. When creating your Google AdSense ads it is recommended to use the color scheme and style of your website so that the ads blend in well. Ads without background color and borders perfom better than ads within borders with background color.
#6: Position Counts, TooIt is well known that visitors to a website scan the site to determine if it is worth reading. You definitely want them to see and scan your AdSense ads. Therefore, the best place to put them is in the top left part of your page or directly under your headlines.
#7: Increase The NumberAdSense allows you to use up to three AdSense units on a page, two AdSense search boxes, and one unit of ad links. Using all that you can increases the chances of earning money.Keep these seven tips in mind when creating your AdSense site and you will find that your clickthrough rates increase, thus increasing your money making potential.About the Author:AdsenseSitesForSale.com makes it easy to generate Google Adsense Income, quickly & easily. YPN is not a serious competitor to Google AdSense

Once having established itself as a default Internet trendsetter Google goes on leading the immense online community in what is related to online search and advertising. And the companies, namely Microsoft and Yahoo, which some time ago were leaders of the industry can hardly now hold a candle for Google. While Google introduces something Yahoo and Microsoft just replicate it. While Google goes in the vanguard others just catch up with it. And this is not a eulogy to Google. Statistics and feedback are elementary indices which can show you the actual state of affairs. Well, if you don’t trust even these, the fact that you are likely among those who first search for information through Google and then through Yahoo is enough to determine who is the best. But if you decide to dispute the fact and assert you are an ardent adherent of Yahoo the fact of Google’s leadership still remains irrefutable as long as it is Yahoo who is seeking to establish a partnership with Microsoft in their conjoint move to compete with Google. Anyway, while Yahoo is trying to decide on how to more effectively dethrone their strong rival, we will focus on the facts on the basis of which you can make your own conclusion though we are sure a priori that Google is the best, at least for now…
Certainly the heading of our current post should have prompted you in what light we are going to compare the two unequal competitors. We would like to compare contextual advertising services of Google and Yahoo and show their advantages and disadvantages, if, of course, there are any disadvantages.
Availability
Google AdSense is available for use to any publisher around the globe. You must apply for the service with a given site and be accepted on the basis of that site. You can also add other sites which should be compliant with the Terms of Service.
Yahoo Publisher Network is available only for U.S. based site owners. Besides, in order to apply for the service you will be required to provide your U.S. address and U.S. Social Security number or your U.S. IRS tax ID number. Interestingly, launched in 2005 YPN has not still been developed to be accessible to users in other countries. At first the company tried to provide the service to site owners in Europe but then it suddenly terminated it.
When Google AdSense was launched it accepted almost everyone who wished to participate but eventually the company became too strict in its rules. Now AdSense may terminate accounts of the non-performers. If the number of clicks made by the visitors of your site on the ads provided by Google is minor or if there are no clicks at all AdSense won’t be long in abandoning your site.
As for Yahoo it was always selective in who they want to accept. But eventually YPN became even stricter. While Google declines you after you brought no revenue to its advertisers YPN may refuse to accept your on the basis of your poor traffic.
Google AdSense supports the following 29 languages:
Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Chinese (trad.), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish
Meantime YPN is available only for English speaking users. Thus those who live in the U.S. but speak other languages than English will have some difficulties in incorporating the advertisements into their websites.

In May 2005, Google announced a limited-participation beta version of AdSense for Feeds, a version of AdSense that runs on RSS and Atom feeds that have more than 100 active subscribers. According to the Official Google Blog, "advertisers have their ads placed in the most appropriate feed articles; publishers are paid for their original content; readers see relevant advertising—and in the long run, more quality feeds to choose from."
AdSense for Feeds works by inserting images into a feed. When the image is displayed by a RSS reader or Web browser, Google writes the advertising content into the image that it returns. The advertisement content is chosen based on the content of the feed surrounding the image. When the user clicks the image, he or she is redirected to the advertiser's website in the same way as regular AdSense advertisements.
AdSense for Feeds remained in its beta state until August 15, 2008, when it became available to all AdSense users.
Once Yahoo had some advantage over Google in that it allowed ads in RSS feeds for all publishers unlike AdSense which selectively choose publishers. On February 2, 2009 YPN dropped ads for RSS Feeds at all.
Ad targeting
Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating website. If the advertisements are included on a website that has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, AdSense will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes, also known as public service announcements (PSAs). As for Yahoo first ads served are RONs – Run of Network advertisements.
While with AdSense subsequent refreshes produces targeted ads with Yahoo it works sometimes. Besides, if YPN can't find ads, you get the same 4 RON ads over and over. If one "apt" ad is found, it is presented at the bottom or middle of the 4 ad set, not at the top.
Naturally, AdSense pays nothing for PSA ads but if you want you can specify an alternate URL or as some users recommend you can disable them, by specifying a blank color instead. Yahoo displays RON ads that pay fairly well and still allows you to disable them if you want.
AdSense sets no limits on the number of pages where different ads can be placed. Yet there are obviously some limits in the number of ads available for targeting the audience of your site. You cannot choose yourself the categories of ads that should be displayed on the pages of your site. It is AdSense system itself that recognizes the content and then basing on the keywords provides targeting ads. Some users report that there was nothing on some pages of their websites and they suppose that in fact ads for some content just don’t exist.
In case with YPN the task is much easier as the service provides a choice of 20 broad category selections:
Apparel and JewelryAutomotiveB2BBooks - Movies - Music - TicketsComputingEducation and CareerElectronics and AppliancesEntertainment - Social EventsFinancial ServicesFlowers and Candy Health and BeautyHome and GardenMass MerchantsProfessional ServicesReal EstateReferenceSporting GoodsTelecom - ISPsToys and HobbiesTravel
There are also 132 YPN subcategories. But you can apply YPN ads from different categories only to 50 pages. Besides, these categories are general while your content needs keyword targeting which works at YPN not very often. In most cases ads from YPN are irrelevant to your content.
Performance
It is commonly admitted that YPN provided much better CPC than AdSense. But at the same time it is well known that CTR is much higher at AdSense than at YPN. Besides, eventually YPN started decreasing its CPC rates.
Discussing the question of which contextual advertising service is better one user said : “YPN will most likely pay more per click then AdSense (depending on category) but the biggest issue with YPN is that the ads (so far) are not very relevant to the page so your CTR will be lower than normal. You can have a page about Mortgage Refinancing and it will show ads for cell phone ring tones…”
In one comparative analysis of YPN and AdSense it was noted: “Initially, YPN paid much higher than AdSense. Now, they either pay less, or much less… The YPN payout is steadily decreasing over time. With the recent introduction of YPN's version of Smart-Pricing, many are reporting that payout has been dropping like a rock. A typical CTR difference of 10 times totally offsets an EPC difference of 2 times, or even 5 times. Because of this, in almost all cases, you will make more money using Google.”
Conclusion
Of course parameters against which we have analyzed the two services are not all the areas where YPN and AdSense reveal their advantages and disadvantages. But as one user maid a fair notice “Other than the issues already mentioned the service [YPN] is more or less a clone of Google Adsense. You have plenty of options for unit size, and can easily customize the colors. Payment terms are roughly the same as well.” That is why discussing other features are not necessary. These main characteristics are enough to have a sufficient apprehension of what is worth what. So, YPN is useful when it comes to the ability to select ad categories yourself for your pages while Google AdSense having no such functionality still provides you with more effective keyword targeted ads. YPN gives websites higher CPC but it means nothing if you take into account its extremely low CTR. Google AdSense has a very high CTR and though it gives lower CPC you can generate much more revenue at the expense of higher relevance of the ads placed by AdSense on your website. We think that AdSense is so far the best contextual advertising service while Yahoo Publisher Network needs much to do to upgrade and improve their system. Who knows maybe after some time YPN will be able to surprise us and become a true and decent contester to Google AdSense.

Google AdSense, Analytics Integration Now Available to All Publishers

Google AdSense has just made the AdSense-Analytics integration available to all publishers. This feature which was gradually rolled out to selected AdSense publishers the past couple of months provides useful information about site traffic to individual pages and how users interact with publisherss’ sites. Linking AdSense and Analytics accounts gives AdSense publishers more control on how to target their contents for a more profitable Google AdSense implementation.
Specifically, linking your AdSense and Analytics account will give you the following additional reports on your Analytics homepage:
Top AdSense Content - more details about specific pages on your site and analyze ad performance. You can see which pages on your site have more pageviews, so that you can implement additional optimization effeorts on these pages.
Top AdSense Referrers - how different incoming traffic sources contribute to your revenue.
AdSense Trending - lets you analyze how your site generates revenue during different times of the day and different days of the week.
To integrate your AdSense and Analytics accounts, just login to your AdSense account and you’ll see a link to integrate AdSense and Analytics at the AdSense report page.
Once you’ve linked your AdSense and Analytics accounts, you will see a new “AdSense Revenue” tab on your Analytics account. This will enable you to compare your AdSense revenue from new visitors coming to your site against existing visitors.

Google Banning AdSense Publishers For Not Updating Privacy Policies

Ever since May 2008, when Google began supporting third-party cookies as part of the DoubleClick acquisition, Google has been asking AdSense publishers to update their privacy policies to include language that third-party cookies are in fact utilized. Then, more recently, Google started behavioral targeting ads and asked publishers again to update their privacy policies.
A new wave of AdSense publisher account bans has been spotted in the discussion forums and some believe this is due to some publishers not updating their privacy policies. A Google AdSense Help thread has discussion around this theory. One "Top Contributor" said:
The privacy policy is a huge deal because it's about doing ethical business. Google is, and partners with, some of the largest companies in the world through the AdSense/Words programs, and if parties on either side of the fence (SANE parties I mean, not these doofi who for some reason think that Google is trying to remain one of the world's largest and most successful companies by ripping them off for a hundred bucks) lost faith in the Google brand - which is largely built on their ethics - then the whole thing falls apart. The advertisers must have a degree of confidence that Google both maintains and enforces standards among their AdSense publishers...so if Richard Branson happens to stop by LowGenius.Com and see that I don't have a privacy policy, and there's an ad for Virgin Airways at the top of my page, he's going to throw a fit and pull his ads...the whole network loses.
But do you think Google is really banning accounts over not having the proper privacy policy?
We recently polled our audience to see how many have updated their privacy policy for AdSense and currently, most have said they have not. If you have not taken the poll yet, please do and I will publish the results later this week.

Earnings Review: Analysts Play Down Google AdSense Revenue Slide

It was a small but notable part of Google’s Q1 lackluster earnings report yesterday afternoon: Revenue from the AdSense program slid 3 percent from the prior year’s period and 3 percent compared to Q408. While most analysts skipped over AdSense in their morning reports, three analysts I spoke to said they didn’t find much cause for concern there. AdSense’s declines were “not an issue. The AdSense business is being impacted by quality clean-up—i.e. removing some partners, weak partner performance (i.e. AOL (NYSE: TWX) & Ask.com). The macro [problems are ] hitting partners more than Google (NSDQ: GOOG), and hitting display (AdSense for content) more than search.”The analyst also pointed out that Google is still gaining the share of overall search, so some of it is coming from AdSense for search partners. Analysts expect AdSense to return to growth as display ramps up with DoubleClick integration and the new Google ad exchange product.

Make Money With Google AdSense

Anyone who owns or is thinking about creating a website would be crazy to ignore this.

I am happy to say that making money with your site, no matter the topic, has become easier than it's ever been before - and it's 100% legitimate.

If AdSense had been available in 2000, I would have NEVER shut down my soap opera fan site that received 200 hits per day. I would have been able to earn money from that traffic and probably turned a small profit.

Untold Facts About AdSense you need to know in order to succeed with the program!

Yes, the money can be great, but if you don't learn how to build a site that attracts targeted traffic then you won't make much from AdSense.

Don't pay a cent for these "Get Rich Quick" books on AdSense. Many of them are all hype. Learn all you need to know for free.

What is AdSense?
Google.com earns most of its revenue by allowing other website owners to advertise on their search result pages. All this is managed through a program they call AdWords.

Now you can earn a share of the revenue that Google earns from AdWords by displaying these same text ads on your site. In other words, you're helping Google advertise and they pay you a percentage of what they earn.

This program is called AdSense.

Every website owner should at least consider the program. Even if your site is just for information purposes, you can still participate and make decent money with AdSense -- or at least enough to fund your website.

So if you are one of those people that doesn't like the idea of paying for a site, this is an excellent way to earn your money back and then some.

If you understand how AdSense works, you will see that it's a win-win situation for everyone involved, and the bottom line benefits Google. Let me explain...

Since the advertiser's ads are now being displayed on more web sites all over the internet (instead of just Google's site), they are getting much more exposure. More exposure means more clicks and even more traffic for their site over a shorter period of time.

This is good news for Google because the more traffic the advertisers receive, the faster their advertising funds are used up.

Remember, they get charged every time their site gets a visit; and of course, it is Google's hope that they'll continue to keep funneling more money into their account for more ad exposure.

What an ingenious way for Google to increase the amount of money they earn from advertisers while building loyalty with website owners (like us) who are now getting paid to help them advertise.

Of course, I'd expect nothing less from the most popular search engine on the web. :)

My Personal AdSense Story
I have been receiving monthly checks from Google since 2003, and I've read numerous success stories of websites earning 5 digit incomes per month with AdSense.

Now, I will admit, a 5-digit commission in a single month is probably not the norm for most participants.

I promote AdSense on three of my websites and my checks have been as high as $4,500.

The more information you have, the greater chance you have of attracting free search engine traffic. That's why it's so very important you choose a topic you have an interest in so you can keep building and building.

My checks weren't always that large. I think my first month's earnings in 2003 totaled less than $20. However, I kept getting more and more search engine traffic by adding more content and the checks slowly began to increase. I had no idea it would grow to anything like this.

"How Much Can I Earn With AdSense?"
Google does not disclose exactly how much you'll earn per ad that is clicked.

The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount. I've heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click.

So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like debt free, employment, make money, mp3, sex, etc. will earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on the web.

Advertisers generally pay more for popular terms because they are searched for more.

Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked from your site, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, month, year, etc.

For example, if you see that you've made $12.60 today from 9 clicks then you can calculate that your average click-thru commission was $1.40 per click. That's as detailed as their stats will get. Also remember, that's only an average. You won't know how much each specific ad brought in.

The amount you'll earn also depends largely on the amount of targeted traffic you receive to your own site, how well the ads match your audience's interests, the placement of the ads on your pages, and of course the amount you receive per click.

Ideally, you should create a site on a topic you know a lot about. That way you'll have a much easier time creating a generous amount of content on that subject.

Why I Believe AdSense Works So Well
For years, website owners have tried to make money from their sites by putting up banner ads in hopes of visitors clicking them. The problem with banner ads is that the Internet audience is so immune to them, people do not click on them anymore.

When's the last time you clicked a banner ad?

...Exactly!

Second, in order for the web site owner to earn money from that banner ad, usually the web surfer that clicks has to purchase something. With AdSense, your visitors just have to click the ads. They don't have to purchase a single thing.

Third, most people that use banner ads do not do a good job of matching the ads to the website's content so the click thru percentages are dismal.

With Google's AdSense, not only are you displaying text ads, (which tend to receive a much higher click-thru rate than banner ads), but you are displaying contextual ads that match your website's content....thanks to Google's advanced technology.

Lots of times people think the ads are part of your site's content so they click because the information is relevant to your site. Whereas with banner ads, they often have little relevance and people tend to ignore them no matter how much they flash and fly across the page.

Creating Your Website for AdSense
Before you even begin your site, make sure you've come up with a topic that you feel you know plenty about. That way it will be easiest to write a lot of content.

The more content you have, the better chance you have getting accepted into the program. Also, the more content, the greater the earning potential. AdSense is nothing but a numbers game. If you want to make a lot of money, prepare to write a lot of content.

Now let's talk about building your website. There are two ways you can approach this:

1) Do it Yourself (DIY) from scratch

2) Use Site Build It! (SBI!)

The Do It Yourself Method
I've actually used both methods for building my site and there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

If you use the DIY method, you will have to go and register a domain name (yoursite.com) and then sign up for a web host and build your pages. You can either learn HTML or buy some kind of web editor like Microsoft FrontPage to build your pages. That's the method I used to build this site.

Averaging between $7 and $15 per month, the DIY method is usually the most cost friendly of the two but you are mostly on your own in terms of learning how to create your web pages and adding the AdSense code to your site.

Web hosts are generally there to house your site. They don't specialize in helping you market and optimize your site for the search engines to help you get traffic. So don't expect a lot from them in terms of helping you market your site.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. I had to learn how to build this site on my own and it wasn't very difficult.

I now manage all of my sites with Dreamweaver.

Use Site Build It! - A Web Host Made for AdSense
This is a revolutionary web host like no other. I use it for my site, flat-stomach-exercises.com, and after only 11 months the site was earning over $700 per month for AdSense alone.

Two years after launch, the total monthly earnings shot up to $2,000 to $2,500.

Today, the site continues to earn money from AdSense yet I have no products to sell. I'm simply offering information on a topic I know a lot about and SBI showed me how to rank high in the search engines for various keyword phrases. Over 90% of traffic comes from the free search engines.

The reason SBI is different from the other do-it-yourself hosts is that first it provides all the web page building and marketing help all in one place. Your domain registration, web hosting and marketing help come with the price

Free Guides
What's even better is that you will have access to tons of free guides that show you how to optimize your site for the popular search engines so you can get as much free traffic as possible.

Remember, without traffic, you won't make any money with AdSense. That's why having a host like SBI is so important. Keep in mind, a regular DIY host does NOT help you with search engine rankings and traffic.

Brainstorming Tool
Site Build It also comes with a powerful brainstorming tool. So for all of you sitting there wondering about a topic, this tool literally scours the net and helps you decide on the best topic by showing demand and supply (i.e. number of sites on X topic and roughly how feasible it will be to bring in traffic for that particular subject). It is amazing.

The creator of Site Build It even built a micro site that describes how to maximize your AdSense earnings. And since Site Build It's main goal is to show you how to build income through content...it's almost as if AdSense was designed specifically for a web host like SBI.

See the SiteSell AdSense site here.

I highly recommend using SBI -- especially if you plan on building a site specifically to earn money from AdSense. It is the kind of host that stands for everything AdSense is about -- rewarding website owners for building an abundance of useful content.

Even though the two companies are not related, it really is the perfect marriage between a great concept like AdSense and a web host that is dedicated to showing you how to make money by simply providing information.

Successful SBI Websites
Be sure to also take a peek at all the successful SBI websites created by mostly beginners who have never created a site before. Every site listed on this page is in the top 3% in terms of amount of traffic received on the web - thanks to the SBI search engine help.

Find out why I think SBI! is best for AdSense.

How to Join AdSense

In late 2008, Google tightened up their acceptance policies. According to an email I received from someone who was trying to join the program, you now must meet the following criteria before you are accepted...

- Your website must be your own top-level domain (www.domain.com and not domain.com/mysite). That means you can't just sign up with a free blogger or free web hosting account and get approved for AdSense.

- Your domain name must have been registered and active for at least 6 months before you apply

- The registration information that you provide during the AdSense registration must match your domain name registration information

- Your website must contain a substantial amount of original content

Once you meet the above criteria, go to http://adsense.google.com to apply.

When you are accepted, simply copy and paste the provided HTML code into any page that you'd like to show the ads. If you've done a good job of defining the content on your web pages, the ads that show should be relevant to the content of your page...increasing the chances of click-thrus by your visitors.

You can either display the ads vertically along side the page like Google does or in a banner-like formation horizontally across your pages. The placement is up to you. You can even customize the colors to match your site's theme.

If Your Site Is Rejected by Google...
If you receive that email from Google stating that your site has not been accepted, the first thing you should remember is that as an AdSense member, you become a partner and are representing Google, Inc.

They have to make sure the websites that display these ads are up to par or they could run the risk of losing advertisers. Imagine if you were paying Google to display your ad and you found it showing up on a poorly developed, junky website.

Of course, if your site is rejected, it doesn't mean it is poorly developed. There may be other reasons:

1) Is your site an "About Me" page?

Google does not usually accept these kinds of personal sites because most of them do not have a specific topic or theme. They are usually just random facts about the website owner or their hobbies, pictures, etc.

It would be difficult for Google's technology to display targeted ads on these kinds of pages because the topics vary from subject to subject.

They are looking for "themed" sites that contain a generous amount of information on a specific topic. It could be anything from sewing tips to sports. Just make sure there is an obvious theme with adequate information.

2) Is your site organized?

Be sure your site has a neat and clean navigation that's easy to follow. Also ensure all the links work and that there are no typos. Keep the colors to a minimum and make sure each page has a consistent layout.

3) How many pages are on your site?

Even though Google doesn't specify a page number requirement, many believe they are looking for web sites with a certain amount of content. Again, it's not likely a two-page site will get accepted. Try to strive for at least 15 pages.

4) Is your content solid?

Don't just submit a website with a bunch of links to other sites. Be sure you have a themed/niche site with enough original content of your own.

5) Is your site an exact carbon copy of someone else's?

Some believe Google can find out if your site is original or not. Don't risk it and steal from someone else. It will come back to haunt you.

If you're stuck, write a few articles of your own and then go to sites like www.articlecity.com and sprinkle a few of their articles around your site to beef it up.

6) Be sure to read their program policy and procedures carefully and make sure your site hasn't violated any of the terms.

Tips on Succeeding With AdSense
Here are some tips for achieving success with AdSense.

1. Create a website with your (YourSite.com). Don't try to use a free web host because your site will likely have banners and pop-ups and get rejected because it looks unprofessional. Not to mention, a free web host will give you a website address like this: http://thefreewebhost.com/yoursite/member1234/home.html
instead of...
http://www.yoursite.com

2. If you don't know web programming or have no desire to learn it, get a beginner's design editor like Dreamweaver (what I use) or CoffeeCup. You can publish your content directly to the web from the software.

Keep in mind you can't use the software alone. You must have a web host that will allow you to publish your site to the Internet. (More on web hosting in a sec.)

3. If the main goal of your site is to make money with AdSense, be sure to choose a topic that you know a lot about so you can write lots and lots of content.

4. Get traffic. Once your site is up and running you'll need to learn how to get your site listed in the major search engines.

Getting into Google is completely free and can bring in hundreds or even thousands of visitors per day. All you have to do is submit your site to them and wait patiently while Google adds it to the index. It can take a few months. Patience is key with Google. Then do the same with Yahoo, MSN, etc.

Read up on how the search engines rank pages here.

And while you're waiting it's important you build up as much unique content around your theme as possible. Google loves large sites with useful content centered around a specific theme.

Don't create a hodgepodge site with topics on everything under the sun. Stay focused and make sure your site has an obvious theme.

5. Partner up with other related sites and participate in link swaps. This means that you place a link to another person's site on your own site and they do the same for you in return. This is a great way to get even more free traffic.

Adsense - Still A Cash Cow?

With the advent of Google losing a court case (and a shed load of money) and the continued problem of click fraud the question is now on the tip of everyone's tongue - "Is Google Adsense still the cash cow that it was?". In this article I'll take a look at ways in which the average webmaster may still develop a successful Adsense business and how to use the up and coming Google witch hunt to your advantage. There are currently two main problems that are facing Google, both of which are serious and could lead to the demise of both Adsense and Adwords. The first and most serious problem is that of click fraud. For those of you who do not know click fraud is the act of clicking on your own (or a friends) ads in an attempt to generate artificial earnings. Picmoney.com This is such a problem for Google as it ensures that the value that Adwords purchasers gets is significantly less then they would want, thus ensuring that sooner or later they will just get up and walk away (with what remains of their advertising budget firmly clamped in their hand). To remedy this problem Google have tried putting several rules in place such as not allowing the webmaster to show Adsense ads in auto surf sites (to name but one restriction). The second problem that Google faces relates to content, notably the amount of original content which is out there. The problem in this case is that many people have purchased article scraper software (software that you point at someone elses website and just shout 'Fetch!' - it then returns a document collection which is a complete rip off of the site). This was already a problem before the advent of Adsense sites and with the continual chain of people chasing high value keywords it has become worse; It is now possible to search for a given phrase on Google and return nothing but duplicate content for the first few pages of search engine results. In order to address this problem Google has been modifying it's algorithm to effectively punish people with duplicate content, the extent to which an individual site is 'penalized' is currently a matter for debate. So, given Google is about to launch a witch hunt looking for sites with nothing but duplicate content and for people performing click fraud what can you do? After all there are so many people out there using site generation tools that Google can trace and/or document obfustication technology (you've seen the ads - "We can make your one original article into 300 and Google will never know!" - yep, and anyone who visits your site will just find drivel with spelling errors or contextual mistakes). Step 1. If you must use site generation software make sure you find one that leaves no trace behind itself, ask yourself - 'If I was looking at the source code from the generated page how would I know that it's machine generated?' Step 2. Don't use site scraping tools, they're immoral and a waste of your time Step 3. Do include RSS feeds into your pages, they add fresh content with no effort on your part (at least one of the site generation tools now supports this kind of functionality) Step 4. Don't click on your own adverts, Google will can you in the blink of an eye Step 5. Do get incoming links from established sites (in the same area as your niche content) Summary. If you are at all serious about creating an Adsense income you need more than one site and so it is inevitable that you will use site generation tools (because there aren't enough hours in the day for you to create the amount of pages by hand), by all means use these tools but use them ethically. When using site generation tools ensure that they allow you to add multiple blocks of Adsense /Clickbank /Ebay code to each page (it saves you a lot of time) and that it performs search engine optimization for you (both on page and off page). You should also take the time to write some of your own original content - like this or perhaps pay a ghost writer to create a batch of articles for you (don't forget to ad your bio box at the bottom of everything you write).

Google Adsense Top Paying Keywords

Max CPC - cost-per-click suggested by the tool to get first ad position on this keyword. This is a good estimation of what the highest cost per click is for the given keyword. Avg CPC - average cost-per-click suggested by the tool for highest bidder. Because ads are rotated and bids are automatically lowered to match the next ad, this is the average cost than the highest bidder would pay for one click. This is a good estimation of your average cost for one click. The CPC rates are guaranteed to be the same as returned by Google Adwords Traffic Estimator tool on the day of compilation

Get Paid For Your Traffic...And That Is Just The Beginning
Google AdSense and SBI! are the perfect hand-in-glove fit for you to get your feet wet in the waters of e-business. This powerful combination gives you...
a site that attracts high volumes of motivated, on-target visitors, and
a powerful model for monetizing that traffic.
Click, sit back and understandwhy SBI! makes you succeed.
Here's how...
Site Build It! (SBI!) takes what you know and love (from work experience, hobbies, passions, or pastimes), and helps you turn that into your own unique content on your own unique Web site. You use the SBI! system of no-tech-skills-needed tools to execute the flawless step-by-step process to build a theme-based content site that generates targeted traffic.
Google uses its advanced, proprietary technology and algorithms to determine the content of each of your site's Web pages. It then delivers ads that are contextually relevant to your audience. For every ad clicked, you receive money.
End result?
You convert free traffic (built by you at the Search Engines through SBI!) into paid traffic (paid by advertisers). The beauty is that once you build organic Search Engine traffic, it keeps building and building... free. But advertisers have to keep paying.
Your focus stays on what you love to do, creating more quality theme-based content that fulfills the needs of...
your visitors who are searching for your solutions, information, cures (that's the "content" you deliver)
the Search Engines whose job it is to deliver quality, content-rich, relevant sites to their searching customers
yourself as a business owner. Relevant content attracts and PREsells new and returning visitors who see you as a credible expert in your niche.
The traffic, and the income, now take care of themselves. And, best of all, you can add many other more monetization models once you have built this foundation
